An Interesting Outing...

My parents were in town this weekend and on Sunday morning we went to the Bellefontaine Cemetery. Wow - so interesting, and I can't believe that none of us have ever been there. There are many "famous" people buried there and the architecture and gardens are beautiful. Here are a few of the notables...

Thomas Hart Benton

Captain Eads, as in the Eads Bridge.

Adolphus & Lilly Anheuser Busch - they are inside the building and their children and Lilly's parents (Eberhard & Dorothea Anheuser - for those of you that go to Grant's Farm!) are buried behind.

You can't see it very well, but Adolphus has "I came, I saw, I conquered" on his grave. I'd say he did.

Susan Elizabeth Blow - brought the idea of Kindergarten from Germany

William Clark's son, as in Lewis & Clark, named after his partner in crime, Meriwether Lewis.

Last but not least, William Clark. So interesting!

Tree Climber

Nate loves to climb this tree - it is really the only tree we have that he can climb. I bet he was up there for 45 minutes on Friday afternoon. I sat in a chair next to the tree, enjoyed an adult beverage, and had a great talk with my little boy. Who is not so little anymore.

Swimming with Elena

Last Sunday night we went swimming with Evan, Olga & Elena at the Crestwood Pool. Despite Scott's falls/belly flops from the diving board, fun was had by all.

Boathouse

We have been wanting to go to the Boathouse in Forest Park all summer, but it always seems to be too crowded. So after we visited Nate's pre-school teachers on Friday afternoon (yes people, PRE-SCHOOL, where did the time go??), we dropped by the Boathouse to check in on the volume of people. Volume was low, so we braved the paddleboats. Truly a great experience, if you haven't ever done it - beautiful scenery and there is such a sense of pride and history in Forest Park...okay, enough of the sentimentals...

Nate wanted to steer the whole time, so the trip took much longer than it should have, but oh well, it was fun...and no matter that Scott & I were powering the trip...in all honesty, I powered about half the trip because I wore a skirt and could only paddle when no one was coming toward us...lesson learned.
After the boat trip, we ate at the Boathouse restaurant. Seriously, when did he get so big??

The sunset was beautiful on Friday night...not too hot, which is not something I can't say about yesterday and today!
After dinner, we visited some of the other fountains in Forest Park. I think this is a keeper.

SLU Photoshoot

We ate dinner last night in the SLU area and after dinner we went over to SLU's campus to see the fountains. Parenting note: Always do the activity BEFORE dinner so that your child can deplete some energy so that he doesn't act like an INSANE 3-year old at the table. Check.

The campus was beautiful and I was glad I brought along the camera.

Scott ran through the fountains to get to the center...Nate badly wanted over there, but didn't want to get wet.

So Scott ran back out for a pep talk...

Pep talk...

Okay, Dad, I'll follow you...

Success!

George!

A few pictures of sweet baby George...yesterday....he was sleepy but I had to get a picture of him free of tubes!

This was his last night in the hospital...I thought his expression was so cute, despite the IV "hair bow" he is sporting!

Thanks again to all of my wonderful family & friends for keeping George in your thoughts and prayers!

Swim, Rest, Bike

Lots of simple activities this weekend - that's the way I like it. Nate and I went to the pool on Friday but he wasn't really into the water so we found some other fun things to do.

This is one of those balls that you swing around the pole - the real name escapes me right now. Nate enjoyed swinging the ball and running from it - he only got bonked on the head a couple of times.

The best way to spend a Friday night!

Nate has asked to pick out his own clothes for the past few days. He doesn't do too bad of a job, but I would not have chosen pants on this August day. But whatever. Maybe he takes after Hamil who refused to wear shorts when playing t-ball - he had to wear jeans. Anyone remember that??
I remember when Scott's Aunt Bonnie gave Nate this Georgia Bulldogs hat when he was born. At that time I unrealistically thought, he will never be able to fit into it! Well the day has come, all too soon if you ask me.

Hard at work on the bike...Scott recently got a seat for Nate so that they can ride the bike together. Bless him and his strength! Nate told me that other day, "Mom, when we go up hills and I'm riding Dad's bike, Dad gets REALLY sweaty...but I don't sweat AT ALL!" Mmmmm...funny how that happens.

Ready for a trip to Rocket Park!
