Weekend in SE MO

We spent the weekend in Charleston so that we could visit some more with Emily, Ben, Bluet & Ilona before they embark on their big adventure! I worked in Nashville last week and then drove to Charleston on Friday morning. My people didn't arrive until after Nate got out of school so I had a few hours to kill. I was on my own, with nobody to take care of, so when my Dad asked if we would like to ride out to the Bend, I said sure. Truthfully, this is what I heard, "Girls, I have to go to the Bend to do blah blah blah blah blah, would you all like to go?" Emily said sure, so I said sure too.

My mom asked me if I wanted some different shoes and I was like, "I really have to get out of the truck?" But I took them anyway.

Well.

We piled into the truck and the first hint that I had no clue what I had gotten myself into was when Dad handed Emily this paper about some worms. Black Cut Worms to be exact. They talked about percentages, how big they were, how many we had to find to determine if he had to spray the field or not, etc, etc, etc. And then of course I realized I was on the wrong trip to the Bend.

So when we arrived, I told Emily to just net out what we had to do. Basically, we all had to count how many plants had been affected by said worms in a specific area. 5 different areas to be exact. I did it and honestly, it wasn't too bad.

But then when I thought we were home free, my Dad tells us that we need to find some of these worms. Awesome. But since I was there, and since I knew we would get home faster if I could just find some worms, I dug in. With a screwdriver of course.

And wouldn't you know, I found the first 2 worms. I was so proud. No, I did not pick them up with my hands. I scooped them up on the end of the screwdriver and called for my Dad. Because of course.

I will be listening better in the future.

On with the weekend...my kids love to be with their cousins. And I'm so glad we had the opportunity.
Sweet Ilona...
On Saturday afternoon, we went down to Hamil & Sarah's to swim in the pond and play wiffleball. Nate & Lila loved swimming in the pond. I was a little surprised that they liked it, but they did and are begging to go back!

After swimming, they boys played some wiffleball.

Scott, the pitcher. Maybe he could give the Cardinals some pointers. Ai-yi-yi, they are breaking my heart right now!
Sweet Bluet...
The boy and his stick...always.
Michael & Dad...I really enjoyed sitting out in the yard. Reminded my of my childhood for sure.
Lila Bell - she is a mess. Every minute of every single day.
I think Thane was a little upset that Nate had a stick and he didn't....
So Nate was nice enough to share one of his, so Thane could beat him over the head with it. Boys.
Riding around on Sunday before we left. I love these pictures. Too bad that Bluet got her foot caught under the wheel shortly after these were taken:(

9 more days of school until Summer is officially here!

Oh my goodness - what a little farm girl you are! Even if it wasn't your thing - I am really glad you got time with just your Dad and Emily. That is a very special thing :) Love, JE
