Spring Break Part 4

Back together again!! We arrived back at Mimi & Paka's house where the cousins quickly picked up where they left off. I love that about them, even though they live so far apart, you would never know it. Warms my heart!
Mary, Amanda and I were able to get away on Friday and go to lunch at a cute little place. I had so much fun visiting with them and just enjoying their company. We also went shopping where I got lots of things crossed off my list...there is always a list, because someone is always outgrowing something around here!

Kevin, David and Scott were sweet enough to take the kids on a picnic at the park and to get ice cream. Yes, we love us some Under Armour around the Boyle-Odom parts.
That night, we were getting all the kids bathed when Amanda heard the ice cream truck come by so she had David go stop it so that the kids could get ice cream! Yes, ice cream twice in one day. It was their lucky day! Levi's choice cracks me up, it's bigger than him! Love them all so much.
I didn't take enough pictures of the cousins! They are almost always in motion when we are there - playing baseball or basketball, riding bikes or Star Wars "training" as they call it. Whatever it is, they are always having fun, which is the best part.

Spring Break Part 3

Scott had to work through Sunday, so we waited on him to get finished to make the first leg of our trip to Charleston. After spending a fun night at my parents house, we loaded up and made the trek down to Georgia. Here we are starting our our marathon week of driving!
We spent the night at Mimi & Paka's on Monday night, then we headed down to Savannah on Tuesday morning with Mimi in tow! Our first stop was downtown Savannah where we had lunch with one of Scott's long time friends who happens to live there. After we finished eating, I let them talk while I walked around a little with Lila.
Savannah is just so lovely. I could totally live there.
We all walked around for a bit and saw some great big statues (there is one on every corner), then made our way down to the river.
The riverfront...the port is very historic and the area is incredibly old, by America's standards.

Lila simply can't help herself.
We had a fun time wandering around for a while, then we made our way back to the car so that we could get to our final destination.
The kids were very over pictures by this point. Can you tell?
Final Destination: Tybee Island! We quickly changed our clothes upon arrival and headed down to the beach. It was the coolest day by far, but that didn't stop Lila.
She said, "Come on Dad, let's get in!"
Nate was happy to build a sandcastle instead. He gets that from me of course.
After enjoying some beach air for a while, we made the short walk back to our cottage.
The next morning, while waiting for the sun to get to beach sitting temperature, we went to Fort Pulaski. Since we went to Chickamauga this past November, Scott has turned into a Civil War buff. He really wanted to take the kids to Shiloh over Spring Break, but I decided that wasn't really the best use of our time (Ha!) So he settled for the fort that overlooks Tybee. I'll go to any Civil War site that overlooks the beach.
Robert E. Lee helped design the fort back in the day. They started construction in 1829 and it took 18 years to complete.
Lila has a new obsession with glasses now that Nate has some. He found this pair of glasses without the frames for her and she wore them while at the beach. It's a little bit hysterical.
I mean, y'all.

Her in those glasses and Nate in some of my old sunglasses. They are a pair if I ever saw one.
Nate and his Mimi getting ready to head inside the fort. It was a drawbridge over the moat, which everyone thought was very cool.
Inside the fort...
and some cannons. There were rooms and lookouts for cannons at every turn.

These pictures are from up above, they let you walk on the top wall of the fort. Which is awesome, unless there happens to be no center guard rail and you have a 5 year old that insists on running and darting everywhere. Then it's a harrowing experience of sorts.

Lila wanted to take pictures with Scott's phone the whole time we were there. Her in those glasses taking pictures was an absolute hoot.
The outside of the fort where the Union soldiers did a number on it. The Confederates only lasted 30 hours before they surrendered.

That afternoon, we hit the beach and it was just what the doctor ordered.

Sweet ones...amazing I can still say that after spending 28+ hours in the car with them last week.
Building a big sandcastle!

Love.

Scott let them bury him one time. They absolutely love to do this!
Be still my heart. Her little toes make me smile.

There were jelly fish all over the beach. I haven't ever seen one up close in all my beach going years. Seeing them confirmed I never want to come into contact with one!
Taking a beach walk with Mimi...
they were excited to find this little pool on the beach.
They were playing some leap frog game here and I was trying not to have to play. There are some things that are best to leave in your childhood.
Truly. The best kind of days are at the beach.
We went to eat some seafood on Wednesday night, so we seized the opportunity to take some pictures.

Lila wasn't really feeling it. Ahem.

After we got finished eating, Mary and I went to meet up with Scott & the kids who were getting ice cream. We got stopped on the street and were asked to wait because the man said they were trying to get a shot. They were shooting the new Baywatch right on the beach where we were...crazy! I guess it means we have to watch it now? Can't say I'm looking forward to that, ha!
The cottage where we stayed was so cute and cozy. We ate breakfast outside the last morning we were there and it was so nice.
There was even a cat there who the kids loved. His name was Ollie and he was a perfect cottage cat.
It was a short visit to the beach and we were sad to leave. But we were excited to head back to Mimi's house to see Paka, Aunt Amanda, Uncle David, Noah, Gavin & Levi!
