Spring Break Part 2

We were going to be out of town leading right up to Easter, so I decided we would dye our Easter eggs and leave them in the fridge for the week. The kids were all about dyeing eggs this year!

I told Scott that for the first time it was an enjoyable experience. Dyeing Easter eggs is one of those activities you think will be GREAT fun to do with your kids, before you actually have kids. Sort of like baking cookies and planting flowers with them. In my experience, these activities are borderline enjoyable, probably due to my Type A personality, But this year, we finally hit the jack pot on it being a pleasant activity for all involved.

That afternoon, Lila and I escaped to the nail salon to get our toenails painted for the BEACH! She is such a mess.

We had to rest up because the next day would begin our big adventure!

Spring Break Part 1

The kids Spring Break started on Friday, March 18th. I don't really understand why they get the Friday off before a week off school, but they always do. Scott was working so I knew I needed a long activity to keep us all sane. We chose the Magic House and had a fantastic time!
The first stop was an area that Nate loved. It was a farmers market and it had a cash register. He loves him some cash register.
This area also had an electric car. They both loved it!

The beauty queen pose...
Lila loves the scale at the grocery store so she was very excited to see one in the farmers market. She weighed and measured to her little heart's content.
Then she had brother check her out. I love how her arms are crossed making sure he's not cheating her.
There was a science lab here too and Lila was in heaven! Her pre-school class has been doing a unit on science and labs and it is right up her alley.
Doing some experiments...
and generating their own electricity.
Future scientist??
Next up was a vet office. We were in here for a very long time. They gave check ups, weighed the animals, gave shots and did surgery over and over and over again.

After the vet, we went over to the electric company where Lila was trying her hardest to make this light come on. She eventually did.
And of course the button pusher found him some buttons.
This little area was so cute! It was a pizza parlor and Lila is cooking me a pizza.
Working together...for once. I also requested a LARGE Diet Coke, but sadly they didn't have any.
The baby section of the mini St. Louis Children's Hospital was adorable. We had to take a picture and send to Scott.
In the library, Nate checked out books and gave instructions to Lila. His specialty.
I laughed as I sat in one of the big easy chairs in the corner. We go to the real library all the time but they had the best time in here playing like they were the librarians.
Nate's favorite spot at the Magic House. The Oval Office. I'd vote for him this year.
She loves a microphone!
While Nate talked on the microphone in the House of Representatives room, Lila danced to "My Country Tis of Thee."
The girl has some moves...

When she got a turn at the microphone she gave a speech that turned a few heads...it went something like this, "Abraham Lincoln was not a bad man. No...no, he wasn't. But some people didn't like him. So John Wilkes Booth came into his place at the theater and shot him behind the ear. Then he jumped off on to the stage and yelled and got on his horse and ran away."

Ahem.

She is a sponge and has a memory that is sharp as a tack.

I turned to the other mother that had her mouth open and said, "We've been to Springfield recently and she loves to tell that story." Ahem.

We exited soon after. Ha!

Then it was up to the mystery room that Nate loves. It's a little over Lila's head, so we walked over to the garden section while he finished up.
Whew...we were there a little over 2 hours and all agreed that it was the best time yet at the Magic House. We were tired and hungry so we headed over to Chicky-Fay as the kids are calling it these days. Nate's got his model pose down.
Good start to Spring Break! More on the way!

Pi(e) Day Plus

Lila checked out the book, "Amelia Bedelia's First Apple Pie" last week at the library. She decided that she just had to make an apple pie. So on "Pi Day," we made a pie. It was delicious!
This sweetie pie got glasses last week. I think he's the most handsome glasses wearing 10 year old that I've ever seen!

Beauty & the Beast

A few months ago, Scott and his co-workers decided to take their little girls to see Beauty and the Beast at the Fox Theater. The day finally arrived last Saturday. Lila was very excited to get dressed up and go out on the town!

She helped Scott pick out a tie...
and he brought her a corsage.
Her reaction was precious!

He did this all on his own, it was very very sweet!
They had a wonderful time!

I Need a Vacation Musical

Nate's 4th Grade Musical was called "I Need a Vacation!" Don't we all...yes, don't we all.

He auditioned for a speaking part and he got selected for the character of Bobby Joe. This required him to speak in a whining voice. He was a dead ringer for the part and practiced everyday at home. Even when he wasn't meaning to practice. Ahem. He did an absolutely fantastic job and we were so proud of him! He amazes me that he not only volunteers to speak in front of people, but truly enjoys it and is not ever nervous. He did not get that from me.
With our brave, confident performer!

Tuesdays with Lila

Lila and I have been attending the Tuesday morning story time at our local library since she started her MWF schedule for school. We've both made some great friends there and we will be sad when this sweet time comes to an end with her starting Kindergarten.

We go straight from dance so most of the time she is still wearing her leotard and tights. This week I thought her outfit was especially stylish.
She is one of the oldest kids there now, if not the oldest. But she is a good leader and it's amazing the transformation between age 3 and age 5 for how long they can sit still and listen.
This week we had to run to Target right after story time, and ya know, geese on the roof is totally normal, right?
She has always loved the big red balls outside Target and almost always asks to take a picture there. I'm happy to oblige.
Tuesdays with Lila. I will miss them.
