Lila Lou
I've always made up names for the ones I love, especially pets and kids. Nate has many names that I call him on a daily basis - whatever fits the mood - and my cat, well Kitty Paus is a permanent nickname and we've never called her by her real name, Tess. Anyway, Lila is no exception, she already has lots of nicknames, Lila Lou, Sister, Sister Lou, the Baby Sister (Nate won't shake that one...it's ok with me:)), Lila D, and so on...
Here's a few new photos of our multi-named child...
Meeting the KP - Lila was way more excited than the sweet Kitty P. KP won't even acknowledge her or walk past her bouncy seat. Straight up in denial.

It certainly has been a week of accomplishments...

- Lila is a week old!
- Successful trip to the Botanical Gardens with both kids...by myself
- Dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant where we managed to have a great time - and Scott and I even got to sit by each other (Nate demanded that he sit by Lila...well OK, go for it)
- Wearing real clothes outside the house!
- Lila's "sleeping in" habits in the morning. Scott & I don't really know what it's like to have a kid that wakes up AFTER you in the morning
- Christmas tree & decorations up!
- First beer & margarita in 9 months - on different nights of course
- Clean house & clean clothes - ahhhhh...
- And most of all, we still have our sanity after a week with 2 kids! Life is great, beer is good and yes, I'm sure we will be crazy at some point...(c'mon, you know the song...)
Nate at the Botanical Gardens...they had a see & spy game and he loved it.

Because the Camera is Getting Quite the Work-out..
I don't have anything earth shattering to say today, but since our camera is getting quite the work-out, I have to publish or I'll get behind!
Nate is still so very sweet with Lila...I think this is my favorite to date.

Sweet, sweet girl in the sunlight. I seriously cannot believe how light her hair is!
Last night Lila was a little fussy after eating and did not want to be put down, which is rare so far. I told Nate that I had to put her down because I had to run to the bathroom and I asked him to entertain her. I came back after doing a few things and she was asleep. He said, "see Mom, you just have to pat her head and she goes to sleep." The master at child rearing already, but I so appreciated it!

Lila's Birth Story
Wow...to think I was complaining just a few short days ago that it seemed like she would never arrive! She came on her own perfect timing, just like I knew she would.
We woke up on Thanksgiving Day with not much change in the way I was feeling. Since I had scheduled an induction with my doctor the day before for December 1st, I thought well I just might be waiting another week to meet her. We had a lazy day and planned to eat our Thanksgiving meal at dinner...Nate's choice.
We had a nice day and talked to the Boyles & Odoms in Georgia before everyone sat down to dinner. I made a rare appearance on the webcam (you know the camera adds 10 pounds!) and we had a great conversation. I was feeling no signs of impending labor at that point, besides feeling overly puffy!
We had a wonderful, super special Thanksgiving dinner with Nate at the real dining table, with real dishes and glassware. Nate loved setting the table and getting everything ready. Scott even setup the tri-pod and took a picture of the 3 of us. I love that we took the time to do this now!
After dinner, we cleaned up and changed into our comfy clothes and settled in to watch the Texas vs. Texas A&M football game while eating our dessert. I had just finished my cherry pie when I had a very mild contraction. I thought what the heck, I'll look at the clock to see what time it was so I'll know if I have another one. It was 7:32 PM. I had another one at 7:42, 7:52, and 8:02 PM, when I decided to tell Scott. They weren't super painful, but with Nate, my contractions got regular before they got painful, so I knew we could be on to something! I told Scott that there was a little bit of laundry to be done and that I didn't want any laundry in the house if we did end up going to the hospital that night. He appeased me and did 2 loads of laundry. He is really the most wonderful husband.
We continued to time and they ranged between 8-10 minutes when I suggested that Scott go download an app to his Ipod to time contractions. He was SO excited! He went and downloaded a timer and now we had "stats" on every contraction! Modern technology.
At this point, they were getting a little more painful, but still totally doable. We put Nate to bed and watched the rest of the game. They were getting slightly more painful when we decided to try and go to bed. I asked Scott if he thought I could take Tylenol PM because I desperately wanted to get a good night sleep. He said he thought it would be okay and brought it to me. Not the best decision we've ever made...drowsy and dry mouth, just what you want when going into labor!
I laid down for approximately 2 minutes, had the most painful contraction up to that point, said that's it, I'm getting in the bath to relax. Call my mom. She was in Hermann so I wanted to warn her that we might need her that night. But I told Scott to tell her that it still might not be tonight, my contractions could stall out. Scott was just nodding his head - I think he knew it would be that night. We continued this for several more hours when I told Scott that we needed to make the bed. If we were going to the hospital, I wanted the bed to be made. He looked at me like "lady, you are off your rocker," but didn't say anything and helped me make the bed :)
Long story short, I labored for 6 hours at home when Scott said he thought we really needed to get moving because we might not be at the hospital in time for the epidural. The contractions were coming very close together and were super painful. I was sent home for false labor with Nate and I was bound and determined that was NOT going to happen this time!
My mom arrived around 2:15 AM and we left for the hospital. It was the coldest night - 20 degrees with a dusting of snow on the ground and ice on the steps. Lovely! We made it to the hospital around 2:45 AM. It was just like in the movies - I'm yelling at my wonderful husband to drive in a straight line, drive slow and don't miss the parking lot. Like I'm in any condition to be giving directions to the parking lot. We finally arrived and Scott got me a wheel chair. He would push a little bit and then I would tell him to stop so I could have a contraction - I could not do the bumping while contracting. It seemed to take us an eternity to get up to L&D. We finally made it and I'm breathing very loudly through a contraction. "What brings you in tonight?" The lady at the desk said. I just might lose my patience.
We got to a room quickly and the nurses informed me that I was 6 cm dilated and completely effaced! Wow - I guess I did labor at home! The nurses were so efficient and I was snuggled in with my epidural within 30 minutes of arriving. I was tired, but in such a good mood. We had a wonderfully sweet nurse until 7:00 AM when the shift changed. The next nurse that came on was nice but not quite as friendly until she came in to tell me I was 9 cm and was going to have a baby within 30 minutes. I loudly said LOVE.IT. - she thought that was hilarious and we got along much better after that!
The nurses accidentally beeped my doctor, who was not on call and I think was on vacation, and she decided to come in when hearing it was me that was delivering! So I got to deliver with my own doctor (well my surrogate doctor at least - my real doctor has been out having triplets!). What a blessing to have her there.
Approximately 5 hours later, Lila arrived after only 3 pushes! It was so easy, ok, not easy, it is labor, but I did not remember it being that easy...oh right...that's because it wasn't with Nate. I recommend the second baby experience! Lila entered this world and our lives changed. She is so so so wonderfully sweet and we are beyond excited.
Lila's name is a very special one. Lila Simpson Snow was my great-grandmother (my Nana's mother) whom I did not ever get to meet, but she was the mother to my fiercely strong and independent Nana, so I can only imagine what an amazing woman she was. And DeLaney is for my beloved grandparents - without them I would not be who I am today and I hope that I do them justice when I tell Lila how special it is to bear their name.
Thank you for all the prayers and well wishes! We can't for all of you to meet Lila!
