Nate's First Canoe Trip

I'm finally back! Thanks to everyone that checked on me and my arm in the last few weeks. I am happy to say that I am on the mend. My fractures were not going to be helped by keeping my arm immobile so I did not have to have a long term cast. Thankfully the doctor was right when he said they would not take long to heal. In the last few days, I have started to feel normal again. I cannot lift much of anything yet, but I'm hopeful that will come back soon. The whole experience has made me slow down a little bit, which is not a bad thing for me!

In addition to my arm, my camera also broke a few weeks ago, so I have no new pictures. But I was going to post these of Nate on his first canoe trip before the accident and never got around to it. He and Scott had a great time (and I had a great time having the house to myself for a night!) When they returned from the trip, he asked in his sweetest voice, "Mom, will you please go on a canoe trip with me?" How could I say No? I just said "We'll see." I'm horrible, but sleeping on the ground without running water still doesn't sound very fun to me. My own mother did not help the situation by telling Nate how much fun I used to have on canoe trips when I was a little girl. What can I say? Times have changed.

Blogging Hiatus

If you haven't heard yet, it has been a diasterous week for me. While running in the dark on Wednesday morning, I tripped and fell. In addition to my scraped knees and hands, I couldn't move my arm, so Scott made me go to the hospital to get an x-ray. After a long visit to the ER, I was the proud owner of a tetnus shot and a broken arm.

I was quite the whiner about the shot - I have politely declined them for years at my annual physical. I couldn't get out of it this time though as there was gravel imbedded in my palms. My mom has been lecturing me for some time about the importance of tetnus shots, so she was thrilled.

I have a cast on right now and go to the orthopedist on Tuesday to see what's next. Of course Scott has been great and my mom came yesterday to help out...and we all know how good I am with giving up control. :)

So I will probably be on a blogging hiatus for a bit, but I'm getting pretty good at one-handed typing, so who knows.

Zoo Parent's Picnic

This year we adopted the Malayan Sun Bear at the Zoo (Nate's choice). Yesterday was the annual Zoo Parent's picnic. Nate and I got there before Scott, so we headed to the Children's Zoo. I was most fascinated by the baby Tree Kangaroo...the picture is not very good because Nate had already moved on to the Naked Mole Rats, so I had to hurry.

And here is my big boy on the colored frogs. He told me they were American frogs.

Notice the long sleeve shirt! It did not get above 65 in St. Louis yesterday and was overcast, so we experienced our first chilly fall weather. It was weird, but kind of nice!

Joys of Motherhood

This was too funny not to share...

Setting: The Boyle's bathroom, Nate standing on his "Cars" stool waiting to do his business before we walk out the door...

Me: Nate, what are you doing? Come on, we have to go!
Nate: Mom, did you know that if you push this button, the potty comes out faster?

(I'll leave this up to your imagination as to what "button" he is talking about :))

Me: No, Nate I didn't know that...Come on, let's go!
Nate: I think I will push that button every time I go potty.

Me: GREAT
